Best Music Visualizers (2027)

The music visualizers worth knowing in 2027, free and paid, side by side. Classic preset players, VJ tools, media player visualizers, video makers, and apps for DJs, streamers and listeners.

Quick answer

It depends on what you do. For classic MilkDrop presets in a VJ rig on Windows, NestDrop. For VJ shows, Resolume or Synesthesia. For your own music library, the visualizer in VLC, Kodi or the Mac Music app. For a DJ who records sets, or a venue, SYQEL Desktop.

A music visualizer turns sound into moving pictures. There are many kinds. Some play classic presets. Some are tools for VJs at big shows. Some are built into the media player you already use. Some make a video file from a track.

Those last ones are render-only. You upload a finished track and get a video back. They are good at polished one-off videos and have lots of templates. The others are live: they react to sound as it plays. The table marks each one.

This guide covers both free and paid tools. We say whether each one has a free option, but we don’t list prices, because prices change.

The right pick depends on two things. Where does your music play? And do you want to watch, perform, stream or post a video? Each section below says who the tool suits.

How we chose

What we looked at

Live or render-only

Live tools move with the sound as it plays. Render-only tools make a video file from a track you upload. Both are useful, and the table says which is which.

What it can hear

Some visualizers only react to their own player. Others hear any sound on the computer, a microphone or a line in. That decides whether it works with your music.

Video and offline

Some tools record a video you can post. Some keep working without internet, which matters at a gig or a venue. We say which.

Free and paid, both fair

We include free tools and paid ones, all still maintained by a real team. We say whether a free option, a free tier or only a trial exists, and we never list prices.

Facts come from each product's official site and documentation, checked October 21, 2026. Where we could not confirm something, the table says "Not stated". No scores, no ratings and no prices: prices change, so we only say whether a free option exists.

The options

01SYQEL Desktop

Official site

SYQEL Desktop is our app for DJs, VJs and venues. It runs on Windows, macOS and in the browser.

It listens to system audio, the sound of a DJ app like rekordbox or Serato, or a microphone or line in, and it works offline. It records the set in 16:9, 1:1, 9:16 and 4:5 at once. It sends the visuals out over NDI, Spout on Windows, Mac Screen Share, or a clean window for OBS.

It is free to download and use. Free use shows a SYQEL watermark until you choose a plan.

Good for

DJs who record and post their sets, VJs and venues, with visuals that run themselves.

Keep in mind

Free use shows a SYQEL watermark on the output until you choose a plan.

02SYQEL Art

Official site

SYQEL Art is our visualizer for listening. It runs in a browser, on iOS and Android, on macOS and Windows, and on Android TV, Fire TV and Apple TV. On a TV, a phone or computer on the same Wi-Fi sends it the music. How it hears the music depends on the screen. The computer app hears the computer’s sound, or one app like Spotify directly. In the browser it hears a microphone, a line in, or the computer’s system audio through a virtual input like Stereo Mix or BlackHole. On Android it captures other apps’ sound. On iPhone it plays your own music library and files.

It reacts to an audio or video file, a microphone or line in, and on the web to a shared tab or system audio. The free tier plays Volume 1, with a watermark. It is built for watching, not for running a show.

Good for

Watching music on any screen, including the TV.

Keep in mind

It does not record, and on a TV a phone or computer on the same Wi-Fi sends it the music.

03SYQEL Live

Official site

SYQEL Live is our streaming app for DJs and performers, on Windows and macOS. It puts your camera on a virtual stage with visuals behind you.

Good for

DJs and performers who stream on camera, to several platforms at once.

Keep in mind

Free use shows a SYQEL watermark, and premium stages need a plan.

04G-Force

Official site

G-Force is a long-running visualizer from SoundSpectrum, for Windows and macOS. It works as a plug-in inside media players and as a screensaver.

Classic flowing visuals inside your media player or as a screensaver.

Keep in mind

Hearing a microphone, line in or system audio needs the Platinum upgrade.

05NestDrop

Official site

Building your own visuals from modules, then playing them live or exporting a music video.

Keep in mind

According to its forum, video export works from audio files, not live input.

08Resolume Avenue

Official site

Resolume Avenue is a well-known VJ app for Windows and macOS. You mix video clips and effects live, and audio analysis can drive effects from a microphone or line in.

It records its output and sends video over NDI, Spout and Syphon. The demo is fully working but watermarks the output. Mapping and DJ hardware sync are in Resolume Arena, the bigger edition.

Good for

VJs who mix video clips and effects by hand at a show.

Keep in mind

Mapping and DJ hardware sync need Resolume Arena, the bigger edition.

09TouchDesigner

Official site

TouchDesigner is a node-based tool for building real-time visuals and installations, on Windows and macOS. It hears a microphone or line in and audio files.

Our take

Where SYQEL fits

If you want a free visualizer for your own music library, VLC, Kodi and the Mac Music app have one built in. If you want to play visuals by hand at a big show, Resolume and Synesthesia are built for it. If you want to build something of your own, TouchDesigner is hard to beat. If you want a polished video of one finished track, Specterr, Renderforest or Videobolt do it well from a template.

SYQEL fits when you want visuals that run themselves and follow the music, with nothing to build. SYQEL Desktop is for DJs, VJs and venues: it works offline, records a ready-to-post video in four formats while you play, and sends the visuals to other software. SYQEL Live is for streaming on camera, to several platforms at once, and it records while it streams. SYQEL Art is for listening at home, on a computer, a phone or a TV.

All three are free to try, with a watermark until you choose a plan.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best music visualizer?

It depends on what you do. For classic MilkDrop presets in a VJ rig on Windows, NestDrop. For VJ shows, Resolume or Synesthesia. For your own music library, the visualizer in VLC, Kodi or the Mac Music app. For a DJ who records sets, or a venue, SYQEL Desktop.

Which music visualizers are free?

VLC, Kodi and the Mac Music app are free. NestDrop has a free Classic edition, and TouchDesigner has a free non-commercial license. Specterr, Renderforest and SYQEL have free tiers with a watermark. G-Force, Synesthesia, Magic Music Visuals and Resolume offer trials.

Can a visualizer react to Spotify or YouTube?

Only if it hears system audio or a microphone. NestDrop, Synesthesia and SYQEL Desktop can listen to the computer's sound. VLC, Kodi and the Mac Music app only react to music they play themselves.

Which ones record video?

From this list, Resolume, TouchDesigner, Magic Music Visuals and SYQEL Desktop record or export video. SYQEL Live records while it streams. Specterr, Renderforest, Videobolt and Neural Frames are render-only video makers, so making a video is their whole job. Synesthesia has no built-in recorder; its docs point to other software.

Should I use a live visualizer or a video maker?

If you want a polished video of one finished track, a render-only tool like Specterr or Renderforest is quick, with good templates. If the music is happening now, at a party, a gig or a stream, you need a live visualizer. SYQEL Desktop does both jobs at once. It plays live and records a video ready to post.

Which ones work on a TV?

Kodi runs on Android TV and Fire TV and visualizes music you play in Kodi. SYQEL Art runs on Android TV, Fire TV and Apple TV, with a phone or computer sending it the music.

Is SYQEL free?

SYQEL Desktop, SYQEL Live and SYQEL Art are free to download and use, with a SYQEL watermark until you choose a plan. The free tier of SYQEL Art plays Volume 1.
