Why Spotify Isn’t Showing Up in SYQEL

Spotify shows up as App Audio: Spotify in the audio source list of SYQEL Desktop. If it isn’t there, check these in order.

  1. Spotify isn’t playing. SYQEL lists an app only while it is producing sound. Start a song, then click the refresh button (↻) next to the audio source list.
  2. The list hasn’t been refreshed. New apps don’t appear on their own. Click the refresh button again after Spotify starts playing.
  3. You’re using the web app. A browser can’t hear Spotify or other tabs, so the web app never lists it. Use SYQEL Desktop, or route Spotify through a virtual audio device.
  4. Your system is too old. If the list shows “App Audio (Requires macOS 14.4+)” or “App Audio (Requires Windows 10 build 19041+)”, App Audio isn’t available. On Windows, pick your speakers or headphones to capture everything the computer plays. On a Mac, use a virtual audio device.
  5. Spotify is playing in a browser. Pick your browser’s App Audio entry instead, for example App Audio: Google Chrome.

Spotify is listed but the visuals don’t react

  • Mac permission: if you declined the permission prompt, turn SYQEL on in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording, then pick Spotify again.
  • “Not capturing from the selected app”: start playback in Spotify, then pick it again in the list.
  • You restarted Spotify: pick it again in the list.
