Best Music Visualizers for Serato DJ (2027)

Ways to put visuals behind a Serato DJ set in 2027. Serato's own video expansion, Serato's free video maker, and visualizers that run next to Serato, hear the mix and record the set.

Quick answer

Not as a live visualizer. Serato Video is a paid expansion for Serato DJ Pro that plays and mixes video files. Serato Visualizer is a separate free web tool that makes videos from a track for social media.

Serato DJ is one of the most used DJ apps. It has no live visualizer built in. There are three ways to add visuals.

First, Serato’s own Video expansion, for DJs who want to mix music videos and clips. Second, Serato Visualizer, a free web tool for making social videos from a track. Third, a separate visualizer that runs next to Serato and reacts to the sound.

The third way needs no plugin. The visualizer hears the mix through the computer’s audio, or through a cable from the mixer’s booth or record output into a line input.

How we chose

What we looked at

Hears your mix

Serato has no live visualizer. So the tool must hear your sound, from the computer or a cable from your mixer. We say how each one listens, and what you must set up.

Records your set

Many DJs post their sets. We say which tools record the set with the visuals, and which only make a video from a file afterwards.

Gets to the screen

A screen at the venue, a projector, or OBS for a stream. We say how each tool sends its picture out.

Works without Wi-Fi

Venue Wi-Fi is often weak. We say which tools play with no internet, as far as the maker says.

Facts come from each product's official site and documentation, checked October 21, 2026. Where we could not confirm something, the table says "Not stated". No scores, no ratings and no prices: prices change, so we only say whether a free option exists.

The options

01SYQEL Desktop

Official site

SYQEL Desktop is our visuals app, on Windows, macOS and in the browser. It runs next to Serato and listens to the computer’s audio, or to a line in from your mixer. There is no plugin inside Serato. It reacts to the sound.

Press R and it records the set in 16:9, 1:1, 9:16 and 4:5 at once, with the audio, ready to post. It works offline. Learn MIDI puts its controls on your MIDI pads, and every control can go on a key. For the venue screen or OBS, it has a broadcast window and sends over NDI, or Spout on Windows. A marquee line and, with a plan, your logos can go on screen. Free use shows a SYQEL watermark until you choose a plan.

Good for

Serato DJs who want visuals that follow the mix and a recording of the set in four formats, ready to post.

Keep in mind

It hears Serato through the computer's audio or a line in, not through a plugin, and free use shows a SYQEL watermark.

02SYQEL Live

Official site

SYQEL Live is our app for DJs who stream on camera, on Windows and macOS. It takes the sound from your DJ mixer or audio interface, puts you on a virtual stage with visuals behind you, and streams to several platforms at once.

It records the set on your computer while you stream, and sends the visuals out over NDI and Syphon. Free use shows a SYQEL watermark.

Good for

Serato DJs who stream on camera to several platforms at once and keep a recording of the set.

Keep in mind

Streaming needs internet, and free use shows a SYQEL watermark.

03Serato Video (Serato DJ Pro expansion)

Official site

Serato Video is a paid expansion for Serato DJ Pro. It adds video decks, so you mix music videos and clips the same way you mix tracks. Its video effects are linked to your audio effects, so an echo on the sound gives an echo on the picture.

Because it lives inside Serato, it hears your mix with no routing. It shows the picture in an output window you drag to a second screen, with Syphon on macOS, and it can record. In Demo Mode the output window cannot go fullscreen. The visuals are video files you bring, not visuals made from the sound.

Good for

Serato DJ Pro users who want to mix music videos on the decks, with nothing extra to route because it lives inside Serato.

Keep in mind

It plays video files you bring, not visuals made from the sound, and in Demo Mode the output window cannot go fullscreen.

04Serato Visualizer (beta)

Official site

Serato Visualizer is a free web tool from Serato, in beta. You upload a track, add backgrounds, text, logos and effects, and export a video in portrait, landscape or square.

It is made for social posts, not for the gig. It runs online, in a desktop browser only. Serato says there are no limits or watermarks.

Good for

Turning one track into a short free clip to post, in portrait, landscape or square.

Keep in mind

It runs online in a desktop browser and makes a video from an uploaded track, not from your live set.

05Synesthesia

Official site

Synesthesia is a VJ app for Windows and macOS with shader scenes that react to sound. It hears the computer’s audio or a line in, and it works offline.

On a Mac, hearing Serato’s sound needs a loopback app. It sends video to a projector, or into OBS over Syphon, Spout and NDI. It has no recorder of its own, so a set recording needs other software. The trial output is watermarked.

Good for

Serato DJs who want shader visuals that react to the mix and go to a projector or into OBS over Syphon, Spout or NDI.

Keep in mind

It has no recorder of its own, and on a Mac it needs a loopback app to hear Serato.

06Resolume Avenue

Official site

Resolume Avenue is a well-known VJ app for Windows and macOS. You mix clips and effects live, and audio analysis can drive effects from a microphone or line in.

It is built for a VJ who plays the visuals by hand, so it suits a DJ with a VJ, or a DJ who prepares clips. It records its output and sends video over NDI, Spout and Syphon. The demo watermarks the output.

Good for

A DJ who works with a VJ, or who prepares clips, and wants to record the output and send it over NDI, Spout or Syphon.

Keep in mind

It listens to a microphone or line in, so you run a cable from your mixer, and someone plays the clips by hand.

07NestDrop

Official site

NestDrop is a Windows VJ app built on MilkDrop presets. It listens to the computer’s audio or a line in.

The free Classic edition sends its picture over Spout only, so you view it in other software. Direct fullscreen on a screen needs the Midnight edition.

Good for

Windows DJs who like MilkDrop presets and want them to hear the computer's audio, with a free edition to start.

Keep in mind

It runs on Windows only, and the free edition sends its picture over Spout only, so fullscreen on a screen needs the Midnight edition.

08Magic Music Visuals

Official site

Magic Music Visuals is a modular tool for Windows and macOS. You build visuals from modules and play them live from a microphone or line in.

It takes some time to learn. According to its forum, video export works from audio files, not from live input, so it will not record your set as you play. The demo adds a watermark after the trial period.

Good for

DJs who like to build their own look from modules and play it from a line in.

Keep in mind

It takes time to learn, and it exports video from audio files, not from your live set.

09Specterr

Official site

Specterr is a web app that makes visualizer videos from a recorded track or DJ mix, using templates. It does not follow you live. It turns a finished mix into a polished video to post.

It exports MP4 up to 4K on the top plan. The free plan exports with a watermark, and free videos expire after 10 days.

Good for

Turning a finished mix into a polished video to post, up to 4K on the top plan.

Keep in mind

It is online and render-only, so it does nothing at the gig, and free videos carry a watermark and expire after 10 days.

Our take

Where SYQEL fits

If you want to mix music videos inside Serato, Serato Video is the natural choice. For a quick social clip of one track, Serato Visualizer is free. To turn a whole recorded mix into a video, Specterr works from templates. If you work with a VJ, Resolume is the standard.

SYQEL Desktop fits the Serato DJ who wants visuals that follow the mix with nothing to prepare, and a recording of the set to post. It works offline, takes your MIDI controls, and records four formats while you play. If you stream your sets on camera, try SYQEL Live, which records while you stream. Both are free to try, with a watermark until you choose a plan.

Frequently asked questions

Does Serato DJ have a built-in visualizer?

Not as a live visualizer. Serato Video is a paid expansion for Serato DJ Pro that plays and mixes video files. Serato Visualizer is a separate free web tool that makes videos from a track for social media.

How do I get visuals that react to my Serato mix?

Run a visualizer next to Serato that hears the sound. Synesthesia, NestDrop and SYQEL Desktop can listen to the computer's audio. Any of them can also take the booth or record output of your mixer into a line input.

Do these visualizers connect to Serato directly?

None of the visualizers here documents a Serato plugin. They react to the audio. That means nothing to set up inside Serato, but they do not read cue points or track names.

Can I record my Serato set with visuals?

Serato Video records a video mix. SYQEL Desktop records the set with visuals in four formats at once. Resolume records its output. Synesthesia has no recorder of its own. Serato Visualizer and Specterr make a video from a recorded track or mix afterwards.

Can I control the visuals from my controller or keyboard?

In SYQEL Desktop, Learn MIDI puts any control on a MIDI pad or knob, and every control can go on a key. Serato Video's effects follow your Serato audio effects, so you play them from the same controls.

Do I need internet at the gig?

Serato Video, Synesthesia, Resolume and SYQEL Desktop play offline. Synesthesia's license must sync online every 30 days. Serato Visualizer and Specterr are web tools, so they need a connection.

Will a visualizer slow down Serato?

Visuals use the graphics card, so it depends on your laptop. If it struggles, run the visuals on a second computer and send it the audio from your mixer.
