Best Music Visualizers for VirtualDJ Users (2027)
VirtualDJ has its own video engine and Visuals. Here is what they do, and how they compare with VJ tools, video makers and SYQEL that run beside it, for recording the set and feeding OBS or the venue screens.
Quick answer
Yes. For audio-only tracks it can show shader visualizations, cover art, a camera or a slideshow. Its Visuals feature adds AI video loops and audio-reactive patterns that move with the music.
VirtualDJ is one of the few DJ apps with real visuals built in. It mixes music videos, fills audio-only tracks with visualizations, and its Visuals feature adds loops and patterns that move with the music.
For many VirtualDJ users that is enough. Others want a different look, a feed into OBS or a venue’s rig, or a recording of the set in several formats. Then a second app runs beside VirtualDJ and listens to its sound.
This guide covers VirtualDJ’s own visuals first, then the apps VirtualDJ DJs pair it with. None of the other apps plugs into VirtualDJ directly. We don’t list prices, because they change.
How we chose
What we looked at
Built in or beside it
VirtualDJ has visuals of its own, with nothing to route. We compare them fairly with apps that run next to VirtualDJ and hear its sound.
Records your set
Many DJs post their sets. We say which tools record the set with the visuals, and which only make a video from a recorded mix afterwards.
Gets the picture out
A second screen, a projector, OBS or a venue's rig. We say how each tool sends its picture out.
Works without Wi-Fi
Mobile DJs often play where the Wi-Fi is weak. We say which tools play offline, as far as the maker says.
Facts come from each product's official site and documentation, checked October 21, 2026. Where we could not confirm something, the table says "Not stated". No scores, no ratings and no prices: prices change, so we only say whether a free option exists.

The options
01SYQEL Desktop
Official siteSYQEL Desktop is our visuals app, on Windows, macOS and in the browser. It has no VirtualDJ plugin. It runs beside VirtualDJ and listens to the computer’s audio, or to a line in from your mixer.
Press R and it records the set in 16:9, 1:1, 9:16 and 4:5 at once, with the audio, ready to post. It works offline. Learn MIDI puts its controls on your MIDI pads, and every control can go on a key. For OBS or a venue rig, it has a broadcast window and sends over NDI, or Spout on Windows. A marquee line and, with a plan, your logos can go on screen. Free use shows a SYQEL watermark until you choose a plan.
Good for
VirtualDJ DJs who want visuals that follow the mix, recorded in four formats, with their logos on screen and NDI out.
Keep in mind
It runs beside VirtualDJ and listens to its sound rather than plugging in, and free use shows a SYQEL watermark.
02SYQEL Live
Official siteSYQEL Live is our app for DJs who stream on camera, on Windows and macOS. It takes the sound from a DJ mixer or audio interface input, or the computer’s audio, and puts your camera on a virtual stage with visuals behind you.
It streams to several platforms at once, records the set while you stream, and sends the visuals out over NDI and Syphon. Free use shows a SYQEL watermark. Premium stages and some layouts need a plan.
Good for
VirtualDJ DJs who stream on camera to several platforms at once and keep a recording of the set.
Keep in mind
Streaming needs internet, and free use shows a SYQEL watermark.
03VirtualDJ video engine & Visuals
Official siteVirtualDJ is DJ software for Windows and macOS with a video engine built in. It mixes video with transitions and video effects, and a video crossfader can follow the audio.
For audio-only tracks it can show shader visualizations, the album cover, a camera, or a slideshow. Its Visuals feature adds AI video loops and audio-reactive patterns from an online gallery. A BeatMove option makes them react to the beat. Getting new Visuals needs internet, so download them before the gig.
The video goes to a window you can drag to a second screen, or to a wireless display over Miracast or AirPlay. It records and can broadcast. It is free for home use that is not professional. Professional use needs a paid license.
Good for
VirtualDJ users who want video mixing, visuals for audio-only tracks, recording and broadcasting, with no second app.
Keep in mind
Professional use needs a paid license, and its docs list no NDI, Spout or Syphon output.
04NestDrop
Official siteNestDrop uses MilkDrop presets for VJ performance on Windows. It hears the computer’s audio or a line in.
The free Classic edition sends its picture out over Spout only, so you view it in other software. Direct fullscreen needs the Midnight edition, and NDI needs Midnight Pro.
Good for
Windows DJs who like MilkDrop presets and want them to hear the computer's audio, with a free edition to start.
Keep in mind
It runs on Windows only, and the free edition sends its picture over Spout only, so fullscreen on a screen needs the Midnight edition.
05Synesthesia
Official siteSynesthesia plays real-time shader scenes that react to the computer’s audio or a line in, on Windows and macOS. It works offline.
It sends video to several screens, or into OBS over Syphon, Spout and NDI. It has no recorder of its own. On macOS, hearing VirtualDJ’s sound needs extra loopback software. The trial is watermarked.
Good for
VirtualDJ DJs who want a different look that reacts to the mix and goes into OBS or a rig over Syphon, Spout or NDI.
Keep in mind
It has no recorder of its own, and on a Mac it needs a loopback app to hear VirtualDJ.
06Resolume Avenue
Official siteResolume Avenue is a VJ app for Windows and macOS for mixing video clips live. It can analyse a microphone or line in so effects follow the music.
It sends video to several screens, NDI, Spout or Syphon, and records. It suits a DJ who works with a VJ, or bigger shows. The demo watermarks the output and plays a voice reminder.
Good for
A DJ who works with a VJ, or who prepares clips, and wants to record the output and send it over NDI, Spout or Syphon.
Keep in mind
It listens to a microphone or line in, so you run a cable from your mixer, and someone plays the clips by hand.
07TouchDesigner
Official siteTouchDesigner is a node-based tool for building real-time visuals, on Windows and macOS. It hears a microphone or line in and sends video to several screens, NDI, Spout or Syphon.
Nothing reacts to music out of the box: you build the show yourself. The free Non-Commercial license is capped at 1280 by 1280 pixels and excludes paid work.
Good for
DJs who like to program and want to build their own show from a line in.
Keep in mind
Nothing reacts to music out of the box, and the free license is capped at 1280 by 1280 pixels and excludes paid work.
08Specterr
Official siteSpecterr is a web app that makes visualizer videos from a recorded track or DJ mix, using templates. It does not follow you live. It turns a finished mix into a polished video to post.
It exports MP4 up to 4K on the top plan. The free plan exports with a watermark, and free videos expire after 10 days.
Good for
Turning a finished mix into a polished video to post, up to 4K on the top plan.
Keep in mind
It is online and render-only, so it does nothing at the gig, and free videos carry a watermark and expire after 10 days.
09Renderforest Music Visualizer
Official siteRenderforest is an online video suite with about 128 music visualizer templates in widescreen, portrait and square. You upload the mix and export a video.
Free exports are watermarked. Most visualizer templates export up to 1080p.
Good for
Picking a template to turn a recorded mix into a video in widescreen, portrait or square.
Keep in mind
It is online and render-only, free exports are watermarked, and most visualizer templates stop at 1080p.
Our take
Where SYQEL fits
Start with what VirtualDJ already gives you. Its video engine and Visuals cover a lot, all inside the app you play on. If you work with a VJ, Resolume gives them full control. To turn a recorded mix into a video, Specterr and Renderforest work from templates.
SYQEL fits when you want visuals that follow the mix, recorded in four formats and ready to post, or sent into OBS or a rig over NDI. SYQEL Desktop does that beside VirtualDJ, offline, with your logos on screen. If you stream on camera, SYQEL Live puts you on a stage, streams to several platforms at once and records while you stream.
Frequently asked questions
Does VirtualDJ have a visualizer?
Yes. For audio-only tracks it can show shader visualizations, cover art, a camera or a slideshow. Its Visuals feature adds AI video loops and audio-reactive patterns that move with the music.
Can I use VirtualDJ's video at paid gigs?
VirtualDJ is free for home use that is not professional. Professional use needs a paid license. Creating AI video loops is limited each month for PRO users.
Why use a separate visualizer with VirtualDJ?
For a different look, for NDI or Spout output into OBS or a venue rig, or to record the visuals in several formats. VirtualDJ's docs do not list NDI, Spout or Syphon output. Apps like Resolume, Synesthesia and SYQEL Desktop do.
Does SYQEL plug into VirtualDJ?
No. SYQEL Desktop has no VirtualDJ plugin. It runs beside VirtualDJ and listens to the computer's audio, or to a line in from your mixer, so it reacts to whatever you play.
Can I record my set with visuals?
VirtualDJ records video itself. SYQEL Desktop records the set in four formats at once, for every social feed. Resolume and TouchDesigner record their output. Specterr and Renderforest turn a finished mix into a video afterwards.
Does VirtualDJ need internet for visuals?
Downloading Visuals from the online gallery and creating new ones need internet. Playing your local tracks does not, so download what you need before the gig.
Is SYQEL free?
SYQEL Desktop and SYQEL Live are free to download and use, with a SYQEL watermark until you choose a plan.
