Follow mode in SYQEL Studio: give every instrument its own shape

Watch: Follow mode in SYQEL Studio: give every instrument its own shape

A Studio visual can move with your music in two ways. You switch between them at the top of the Effects Board.

  • Drive: the music moves one whole world. Each effect changes one aspect of it, like speed, light or fog.
  • Follow: every instrument gets its own shape on screen. The vocals, the bass, the kick and the rest each move their own part of the picture.

Set up an instrument

  1. Open a visual that follows the band, and pick the Follow tab.
  2. The Instruments panel lists Vocals, Bass, Guitar & keys, Kick, Snare, Toms and Cymbals.
  3. Pick a shape for an instrument: Trail, Giant, Orbit, Loop, Spark, Swell or Swarm. In the video, the bass drives the giant jellyfish.
  4. Pick Not shown to hide an instrument’s shape. Pick a shape again and it’s back.
  5. Give it a colour of its own, like pink, and it glows that colour with its instrument.
  6. Drag its strength up so it stands out from the rest.

These controls let you decide which instruments lead.

When Follow is limited

If a scene has no separate elements, Follow is greyed out and the board says Follow: limited. Use the library’s Follow filter to find visuals made for it. See Find a visual in the library.

Keep it

Save your version, and it loads into SYQEL Desktop and SYQEL Live. See Save your visual and play it in SYQEL Desktop.
